Jupiter (aka the King Star) is the fifth planet from the Sun and the largest planet in the solar system. It is known as a gas giant because it is primarily composed of gas rather than rock or other solid matter. Jupiter’s size and position relative to the earth plays an important role in shielding Earth from deadly strikes from approaching asteroids, comets and other celestial bodies.
