Scholars disagree as to whether Meribah (meaning quarreled) and Massah (meaning testing) are two different places or two names for the same place the Israelites travelled through during the Exodus. These names refer to the place(s) where the Israelites quarreled with Moses and tested God. Even though God had repeatedly proven He was with them and would provide everything they needed when they needed it, the Israelites began questioned whether God was with them when their water resources got low.
