Pilate aka Pontius Pilate served under Emperor Tiberius as the fifth Prefect of the Roman province of Judea from 26 AD to 36 AD. The Sanhedrin brought Jesus to Pilate requesting Pilate to order Jesus’ execution. Although Pilate personally found no fault with Jesus and was reluctant to have Jesus killed as the Jewish leaders were prodding him to do, Pilate ultimately authorized and attended Jesus’ crucifixion.
