Salome was a follower of Jesus and one of the three women noted to be present at Jesus’ crucifixion (Mark 15:40) and one of the women who went to Jesus’ tomb and found the tomb empty (Matt. 27:56, Mark 16:1). Some scholars believe Salome was the mother of James the disciple and his brother John the disciple in which case she would have been the wife of Zebedee (Matt. 4:21, 10:2, 26:37). If so, she was the mother referenced in Matthew 19:28, 20:20-21 who petitioned Jesus to let her sons sit next to Him on His throne in heaven.
