Damascus is located about 135 miles northeast of Jerusalem and is one fo the world’s oldest presently existing cities being about 4,000 years old. Damascus is mentioned several times in the Old Testament (e.g., Gen. 14:15) as well as in the New Testament (Acts 9:3). At the time of Paul’s conversion experience on the road to Damascus from Jerusalem, he was traveling to Damascus to bring Jewish converts to Christianity back to Jerusalem for trial. Today, Damascus is the capital of Syria.
