“Kalam” refers to the discipline of seeking knowledge through debate and argument. Kalam’s Cosmological Argument is an argument for God’s existence based on the following: Premise No. 1: Anything that begins to exist has a cause; Premise No. 2: The universe began to exist; Conclusion: Therefore, the universe must have a cause for its coming into existence. Christian apologists maintain that because it is illogical to believe the universe was self-caused (because to create itself, the universe would have to exist before it existed), the most logical explanation is that the universe was created by a self-existing, all-powerful, transcendent Creator like the God described in the Bible who chose to bring the universe into existence.
