Polycarp (69 AD – 155 AD) was a disciple of the Apostle John and a 2nd century (101 AD – 200 AD) bishop of the church at Smyrna (located in present day Turkey) which is referenced in the Book of Revelation (Rev. 2:8-10). According to the Martyrdom of Polycarp, Polycarp died a martyr for refusing to burn incense to the Roman Emperor. He was burned at a stake and then stabbed to death when the fire failed to touch him.
