Yale Law School Reading Room  >>

Lee Strobel (www.leestrobel.com) is an example of someone the Holy Spirit drew to God through the use of apologetics. Strobel was a Yale Law School graduate working as a legal editor for the Chicago Times when his wife became a Christian.  Although Strobel was a professed atheist at the time, he began thinking about the possibility of God existing when he observed that his wife’s new found faith had transformed her life.  Strobel “decided to apply [his] experience as a journalist to investigating whether there [was] any credibility to Christianity or any other faith system.” He “resolved to keep an open mind and follow the evidence wherever it pointed” even if it took [him] to some uncomfortable conclusions.”

After investigating areas of cosmology and biology, Strobel says he “became convinced by the evidence that science supports belief in a Creator who looks suspiciously like the God of the Bible.”

Strobel then turned his attention toward history and discovered that, “against all mathematical odds”, Jesus “fulfilled ancient messianic prophecies.”  He also concluded that “the New Testament is rooted in eyewitness testimony and that it passes the tests that historians routinely use to determine reliability.”  Finally, he investigated the accounts of Jesus’ resurrection and determined the accounts could not be dismissed as the product of legendary development nor could the eyewitness reports of Jesus’ post-resurrection appearances be ignored as “mere hallucinations or wishful thinking”  [To examine all the evidence concerning Jesus’ resurrection, go here>>.]

After reviewing all the evidence, Strobel reports taking “a step of faith in the same direction that the evidence was pointing — which is utterly rational to do — and became a follower of Jesus.”  [Lee StrobelThe Apologetics Study Bible, “How Apologetics Changed My Life!”, pg. xxvi-xxvii (2007)]

Since becoming a Christian, Strobel says his life goal is to do his part in “helping others get answers to the questions that are blocking them in their spiritual journey toward Christ.” [Lee StrobelThe Apologetics Study Bible, “How Apologetics Changed My Life!”, pg. xxvi-xxvii (2007)]  In furtherance of that goal, Strobel has written multiple books on apologetics, many of which are included in the resource section below.
